OMG, WOW, What an awesome experience!
This movie was awesome. It was very close to the original Cartoon show. All of the same characters were included. My boys recognized the Mammoth Car and it's owner. And many other aspects of the movie.
The driving was amazing. The race courses were out of this world. The stunts and tricks and flips were incredible. This could be one hell of a video game.
The colors in the movie really make it come across as a cartoon or a comic book. Which is exactly what the Wachowski's intended.
Emile Hirsch does a great Speed. It's all about racing and figuring out what else is going on. He plays the part really well. Christina Ricci is great as Trixie. Has she always been that hot? I need to watch more of her movies. And her acting was fabulous. John Goodman and Susan Sarandon made a great Mom and Pops.
If you're a fan of the original cartoon, then you have to see this. Even if you're not then you have to see this. It's visually stunning and well acted and a great movie.
We got the theater about 30 minutes early. As we walked in we checked out the display poster that 19 YOSD said she had dibs on for us. It's huge. It would fill the boys bedroom.
We then made a stop at the bathroom. For a 2 hour and 15 minute movie, we wanted to be well prepared. Bets were taken on the way on who would have leave during the movie to go. Gladly we each made it through. Thanks to not loading up at the concession stand.
The end credits were rolling when we got the actual theater. I decided we would wait and come back in when they were done. Didn't want to spoil any of the movie.
We came back and sat and waited and watched the pre show trivia, which repeated about 3 times and is usually pretty boring. I guess Ed Norton is in "Pride and Glory" and it came out in March, have to check that one out. Never heard of it. I kept checking the time and showing the boys because they kept asking how much longer.
Finally it was time for the pre-show commercials. Enough of those things. And then it was time for "AJ Hawk of the Green Bay Packers" to smack some guy in the head and turn off the guy's cell phone. It's really time for Marcus to update that PSA. I'm really tired of it.
Then the previews... We got to see Wall-E again. That movie still looks good. Then, Then, it was Star Wars: Clone
Wars. Wow. That movie looks awesome. The picture at left was snapped from the screen with my iPhone. Really cool.By this time there are maybe 24 people in the whole theater. No where near a sell-out. Mostly adults with children, mostly children younger than the boys. One may in our row must have left 3 times with his son/daughter. A toddler behind us cried off and on during the movie. A single guy in front of us watched the whole movie and stayed with us through the end credits. We HAD to hear the original theme song. It was well worth the stay.
And the movie was well worth the HIGH price of admission. This movie would have been so-so on the little screen of my home TV.
Run to see Speed Racer.
